1. Pendahuluan
    Pada modul ini anda akan mempelajari sebuah teks recount. Apa tujuan dari sebuah teks recount,   kerangka/bagian teks recount serta ciri-ciri kebahasaan teks recount.

2. Standar Kompetensi
    Memahami makna teks tulis fungsional pendek esei sederhana berbentuk  recount, narrative dan procedure dalam konteks kehidupan sehari-hari dan untuk mengakses ilmu pengetahuan

3. Kompetensi Dasar
    Merespon makna dan langkah retorika teks tulis esei secara akurat, lancar dan berterima dalam konteks kehidupan sehari-hari  dan untuk mengakses ilmu pengetahuan dalam teks berbentuk recount

The purpose
    Teks recount adalah sebuah wacana tulis yang bertujuan menceritakan serangkaian  peristiwa yang dialami baik pengalaman individu (Personal Recount) maupun orang lain (Factual Recount)
Contoh Personal Recount
Teks 1

    I think my first memories  began  when  I started school at about five years old.     I lived in a suburb of Sydney.   I had a happy childhood. I remember playing in a big gaden.       I fell from a tree and broke my hand. I had to stay home for two weeks. I had a naughty friend named giant O, because he was fat. He like hitting and pulling my head. It was so pathetic. One day I hit him over the head with my bag. His parents were very angry with me. But I didn’t feel sorry at all at that time.    Nevertheles, since the Giant O has become my good friend. It was such unforgettable childhood.

Teks 2
     Picasso was one of the most outstanding and important artist of the 1900’s. He is best known for his paintings. Almost every style in modern art is represented in Picasso’s works Picasso was born in 1881 in Malaga,Spain as the son of an art teacher. He studied painting with his father and also in madridFrom about 1895 to 1901 he painted realistic works in a traditional style. Then he entered what was called the Blue Period. During this time the only used shades of blue in his paintings to show poverty he saw in Barcelona.
After 1907, he entered intothe style of cubbism. Among his wellknown cubbist paintings are ‘The Tree Musicians’ and ‘The Man with a Guitar’which depict the destruction of a spanish town.  Picasso died in France in 1973

Kedua teks diatas menceritakan pengalaman yang dialami baik pengalaman pribadi (teks 1) dengan tokohnya ‘I’ maupun pengalaman orang lain (teks 2)

    Setiap wacana tulis memiliki teks organisasi atau kerangka teks. Teks Recount memiliki organization text yaitu:

Orientation
      Orientasi dapat di terjemahkan sebagai awal atau pembuka cerita. Pada tahap ini sering di sebutkan penokohan, waktu dan tempat kejadian atau latar cerita.
      Pada teks 1 diatas di sebutkan bahwa tokoh sentralnya adalah saya (I). Waktu kejadian cerita itu ketika tokoh tersebut berusia lima tahun (Five years old). Sedangkan tempat peristiwa itu terjadi di sebuah taman yang luas (a big garden) Pada teks 2, Picasso adalah tokohnya. Sedangkan latar peristiwa tersebut tahun 1900-an.

Events
    Events dapat di katakan sebagai rangkaian peristiwa atau kejadian yang di alami oleh tokoh cerita.
    Pada teks 1 dikatakan bahwa peristiwa yang dialami oleh tokoh cerita adalah tangannya patah ketika ia terjatuh dari pohon (I fell from a tree and broke my hand). Kejadian berkesan kedua ketika ia memukul kepala temannya dengan sebuah tas  (One day I hit him over the head with my bag. Pada teks 2 disebutkan bahwa Picasso belajar melukis kepada ayahnya dan Picasso meninggal di Francis.

Evaluation
    Evaluation bersifat optional atau pilihan. Optional dapat diartikan bahwa pada teks Recount tahap evaluasi boleh  atau tidak perlu diungkapkan. Evaluation merupakan pendapat atau komentar penulis atau tokoh tentang peristiwa yang dialami.

Re-Orientation
    Re-Orientation merupakan kesimpulan dari rangkaian peristiwa yang dialami. Re-Orientation bersifat optional.

In England in July 1907, a man named Boden Powell gathered 20 youngsters from different background for a camp. The participants learned the skill of living outdoors and shared their experiences. They were very enthusiastic and the camp was a success. 
Baden Powell returned home and wrote a book called ‘scouting for boys’. It was an immediate a best seller. A year later there were 50.000 scouts in England.
In 1909 the scout movement went international after the visit to Chile by Boden Powell. Eleven years later the First World Scout Jamboree was held in London. Eight thousand scouts from 34 countries took part.
Today there are about 28 million scouts from 216 different countries. Indonesia has the highest number of scouts-about 9.5 million.

The Use of Past Tense

Ann  : Oh no, not again. It rained all day yesterday too
          Rained adalah the past simple tense. Kita menggunakan the past simple
          ketika membicarakan kejadian atau keadaan yang sudah terjadi

•    I enjoyed the party last night
•    Mr.Edi died ten years ago.
•    Anita worked in a bank last year

b. Bentuk The simple past sering berakhiran  -ed
•    We invited them but they decided not to come
•    The police stopped me on my way home last night
•    She passed her test as she studied very hard

Akan tetapi banyak juga kata-kata penting yang irregular (tak beraturan). Artinya the simple past tidak berakhiran –ed
Contoh:
Leave menjadi    left       We left the party at 11 o’clock
Go      menjadi    went    Yesterday I went to London
Put      menjadi    put      They put off all the lights last night

Bentuk past dari kata kerja ‘be’ is/am/are adalah was/were. Kata kerja be dipakai jika ungkapan/kalimat itu hanya menunjukkan suatu keadaan. (bukan kegiatan)

c. Kita menggunakan did dan did not + infinitive (do/open/rain etc) untuk kalimat pertanyaan dan menyangkal

Contoh : Ann  : Did you go out last night, Tom?
              Tom : Yes, I went to the cinema. But I did not enjoy the film.

              Ali    : My mother died  last night.
              Umi  : When did she die?

Akan tetapi jangan menggunakan did untuk kata kerja ‘be’
•    Why were you angry with me?
•    I was not angry with you.

Kesimpulan
The simple past adalah suatu ungkapan atau kalimat yang menunjukkan bahwa kejadian atau kegiatan atau peristiwa atau keadaan telah berlalu. Kalimat the simple past dapat berupa kegiatan (write, sit, walk) atau keadaan (happy, sad, angry)
Contoh:

    He sat under the tree. (kegiatan)
    He was sad. (keadaan)

Bentuk kata kerja kegiatan di bagi dua yaitu regular dan irregular. Kata kerja regular hanya menambahkan –ed. Sedangkan irregular adalah bentuk bebas tak beraturan. Anda sebaiknya mempelajari dan mengingatnya. Bentuk the simple sering digunakan dalam teks seperti narasi, spoof, dan recount.

Narrative Texts

Pembahasan dan contoh
The purpose
    Teks narrative adalah sebuah wacana tulis yang menceritakan  sebuah peristiwa imajinatif dan nempunyai tujuan sebagai to entertain (menghibur). Teks narrative dapat berbentuk cerita panjang (novel), bersambung dan cerita pendek. Cerpen setidaknya dapat berbentuk cerita fable, mitos, legenda, pahlawan, dan misteri.

Contoh narrative
Teks 1

One day in the middle of the jungle, the lion was very hungry for having no food to eat. He met a fox and wanted to kill the fox for his lunch.
“Don’t kill me. I am the king of the jungle” begged the fox.
“oh really!” said the tiger
“How can you prove it me?” Asked the lion
“ok why don’t we walk together. You will see all animals will afraid of me.”
The lion walked after the fox through the jungle. When the animals saw them, they ran away in fear. The lion didn’t realize that they were afraid of the lion not the fox.

Contoh narrative
Teks 2

One day, the wolf was slaking his thirst at a stream when he chanced to see a lamb, also drinking, at some distance down the stream.
Outraged he growled. “You are muddying my drinking water. Now I shall eat you.”
The lamb protested “But Sir, How can I be muddying you drinking water? I am farther down stream than you are. The water is flowing from your part of the stream to where I am.Upstream or downstream, your drinking is muddying my water and I shall eat you!” So saying the wolf leaped upon the lamb and devoured him.

Text  organization
    Setiap wacana tulis memiliki teks organisasi atau kerangka teks. Teks Narrative memiliki organization text yaitu:
1.    Orientation
2.    Complication
3.    Resolution

Orientation
Orientasi dapat di terjemahkan sebagai awal atau pembuka cerita. Pada tahap ini sering di sebutkan penokohan, waktu dan tempat kejadian atau latar cerita. Pada teks 1 diatas di sebutkan bahwa tokoh sentralnya adalah fox dan the lion Waktu kejadian cerita itu  terjadi pada suatu hari. Sedangkan tempat peristiwa itu terjadi di sebuah hutan belantara. Pada teks 2, the lamb dan the fox adalah tokohnya. Sedangkan latar peristiwa tersebut terjadi di sebuah sungai.

Complication
    conflix dapat di katakan sebagai pertentangan yang di alami oleh tokoh cerita. Pada teks 1 dikatakan bahwa peristiwa yang dialami oleh tokoh cerita adalah the fox akan di mangsa oleh the lion yang lapar. Pada teks 2 disebutkan bahwa the lamb mengotori aliran sungai yang di akui milik the fox

resolution
    resolution dapat diartikan sebagai penyelesaian sebuah konlik yang terjadi atau dapat disebut sebagai akhir cerita yang dilalui oleh tokoh cerita. Pada teks 1 si fox dapat mengelabui si lion. Pada teks 2 si fox akhirnya dapat memangsa si  lamb karena kebodohannya.

Why do hawk hunt chicks?
Once upon a time, a hawk fell in love with hen. The hawk flew down from the sky and asked the hen, “Will you marry me?” The hen love the brave, strong hawk and wished to marry him. But she said,”I can’t fly as high as you can. If you give me time, I may learn to fly as high as you. Then we can fly together.

It’s so happened that the hen had already promised to marry a rooster. So, when the rooster saw the ring,he become very angry. “Throw that ring away at once!” Shouted the rooster. The hen was so frightened at the rooster’s anger that she thre away the ring immediately.
When the hawk came a few months later, then  the hen  told the  truth. The hawk was furious that he cursed the hen. “Why didn’t tell me earlier. Now you will always be scractching the earth, and I will always be flying above to catch your children .” said the hawk.

Once, as a lion lay sleeping in his den, a naughty little mouse ran up his tail, and onto his back and up his mane and danced and jumped on his head ......so that the lion woke up. A few days later the lion was caught in a hunter's snare. Struggle as he might, he couldn't break free and became even more entangled in the net of ropes. He let out a roar of anger that shook the forest. Every animal heard it, including the tiny mouse. 'My friend the lion is in trouble,' cried the mouse. He ran as fast as he could in the direction of the lion's roar,and soon found the lion trapped in the hunter's snare. 'Hold still, Your Majesty,' squeaked the mouse. 'I'll have you out of there in a jiffy!' And without further delay, the mouse began nibbling through the ropes with his sharp little teeth. Very soon the lion was free. 'I did not believe that you could be of use to me, little mouse, but today you saved my life,' said the lion humbly. 'It was my turn to help you, Sir,' answered the mouse.

and offering of fruits and tuak are made. The corpse is then moved to face north and is now officially dead.

Growing Number of High School Student Smoking
A survey has found about 13 percent of first-time smokers in the country are junior high school students. It also revealed 89 percent of young female employees were smokers.    The survey was conducted in five major cities across the country,including Surakarta in Central Java Muhammad Syahril Mansyur, the Surakarta Health Agency’s respiratory illness division, said that the finding of the survey showed an alarming growth rate of Indonesian smokers. "This situation is a cause for concern,” he said. “It appears the  country’s younger generation is uneducated about the health risks of smoking.” The Indonesian anti-tobacco campaign has reportedly been deemed as ineffective as the government refuses to sign the international convention on tobacco control.
